Why Jaipur Police failed to remove chaos and jams on Janpath?

The Janpath which connects Rajasthan Vidha Sabha to Secretariat is one of the busiest and the most important road of the city. The pressure on this road is tremendous as the road also connects Rajasthan

Realising the pressure, Jaipur police got one way traffic notified in gazette on both the lanes – Vidhik Seva Marg and Sahdev Marg – to control the erratic traffic movement in February 2019.

However, the notification could not be implemented and the erratic traffic continued on Janpath and on both the lanes – Vidhik Seva Marg and Sahdev Marg – causing jam and chaos.

After almost five years in May 2024, the police woke up to implement the notification enforcing one way traffic on both the lanes amid from lawyers and other officials working in Krishi Bhawan and other offices near secretariat.

Notwithstanding the Jaipur police strictly adhere to the notification and gradually the traffic movement started improving.

“We had achieved 90% success in controlling the traffic. But after some time, again the enforcement was called off bringing back the chaos and traffic jams on Janpath as well as on both the lanes,” said a senior police official.

What should be done?

Ramnath Mathur, a citizen worker said that the police commisioner should immediately implement the notification again.

“Police should not budge under pressure. It should implemented the gazette notification in letter and spirit. One way traffic on Sahdev Marg and Vidhik Seva Marg will make traffic systematic and proper,” Mathur said.
