BJP candidate from Deoli-Uniyara Vijay Bainsla, son of Gurjar agitation spearhead Col Kirori Singh Bainsla, has a chance to avenge defeat of his father.

Col Kirori Singh Bainsla contesting on BJP ticket had lost to former IPS Namo Narain Meena in 2009 from -Sawai Madhopur constituency by just 317 votes in a tight fight.

Namo Narain Meena is brother of Harish Meena, who is the Congress candidate for Deoli-Uniyara in a direct fight with Vijay Bainsla.

Tonk-Uniyara is a Meena and Gurjar dominated constituency. The contest is likely to be tough with Meena betting big on Sachin Pilot's charisma for crossing over of Gurjar votes. The constituency also has 20% scheduled caste voters and 5% Muslim voters apart from 25% general caste voters.

In 2018 Meena defeated the sitting BJP MLA Rajendra Gurjar by a margin of 21,476 votes, largely due to Sachin effect.

“Harish Meena is from Sachin's camp. Pilot will try to influence Gurjar votes to support Meena. Local Gurjars have opposed the candidature of Vijay Bainsla which may also in favour of Meena, Bainsla hails from Karauli district,” said Raghuveer Dayma, who understands the local of Deoli.

Vijay Bainsla, the uncrowned successor of Col Kirori Singh Bainsla is depending on the emotional quotient of the Colonel, he carries with him. His father's deep connect with the community will help him get votes.

“Bainsla has worked in corporate. He doesn't have that rustic look and feel. His father though retired as Colonel, had the rural touch. Vijay Bainsla will have to get in the skin of community to be successful in politics,” said Rameshwar Singh, a political observer.
