Former Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Rajiv Mehrishi has undergone tracheostomy after ventilator support was removed at AIIMS .

Mehrishi was admitted in AIIMS, around three weeks ago following a head injury which he suffered during a fall from bicycle at his home town .

Mehrishi was put on ventilator support as he was facing difficulty in breathing and was in semiconscious . He was detected with haematoma (bleeding) in his brain and a clot was formed there.

According from doctors, the latest CT scan report says that the clot has become smaller as haematoma has been dissolved a bit. However, proper medication for haematoma has not been started.

“Clot has been reduced. We can start medication for haematoma only when the condition of patient gets stable. We expect recovery in few days,” doctors say.

Mehrishi is still having breathing problems. So doctors have performed tracheostomy which is a surgically created hole (stoma) in windpipe (trachea) that provides an alternative airway.

Doctors are monitoring his condition 24X7. They will take a call on future course of treatment after assessing the test reports.

Rajiv Mehrishi was shifted to AIIMS through green corridor from a Jaipur based private hospital three weeks back following head injury inflicted due to a fall from bicycle he was riding morning hours as part of his fitness regime.

During treatment doctors reported internal bleeding and clot which initially expanded and then stabilised. Mehrishi's wife Mira Mehrishi, a retired 1979 batch IAS, a batch junior to Rajiv Mehrishi decided to take him to AIIMS for further treatment.

Chandra Shekhar Rajan, former chief secretary of Rajasthan and close friend of Rajiv Mehrishi accompanied him to AIIMS. Union health secretary Pant, who is also a Rajasthan cadre IAS officer, is monitoring the situation.
