Veera Rana, a 1988-batch IAS officer will get additional charge of chief secretary in Madhya Pradesh after Iqbal Singh Bains retires today after getting two extensions.
This is an interim appointment duly approved by the election commission as model code of conduct is in force in the state. The new government after December 3, 2023 will decide whether to continue with Rana or appoint someone else on this post.
Rana, is currently posted as chairperson of the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education and also holds the additional charge of the state's agriculture production commissioner, will be only the second woman bureaucrat in Madhya Pradesh's history to function as chief secretary. The state government has called a cabinet meeting today to give a farewell to Bains, 1985-batch IAS officer, who was supposed to retire on November 30, 2022, but was given a six- month extension (till May 31, 2023) and another extension for the same period till November 30 in view of the assembly elections.
