Union minister Piyush Goyal flags off mobile vans for sale of Bharat Atta at Rs 27.5 a kg

After selling subsidised onions and pulses, the central government has started selling ‘' wheat flour through mobile vans for poor.

for consumer affairs Piyush Goyal, on Monday, flagged off 100 mobile vans, which will sell Bharat Atta to the poor at Rs 27.5 per kg.

The flour will continue to be available at outlets of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of (NAFED), National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Limited (NCCF), Kendriya Bhandars, and other cooperative stores.

The cost of the flour is at least Rs 8 per kg less than the average market price of wheat flour, which has rose by 4.1 per cent in India this year to Rs 35.84/kg.

Union Piyush Goyal said the government has allocated around 2.5 lakh tonnes of wheat has for Bharat Atta.

“The government sells wheat to cooperatives at Rs 21.50 per kg. The margins of the agencies will reportedly be capped at Rs 5/kg grinding to flour and packaging,” he said.

The flour will be available in packs of 10 kg and 30 kg. The government is already selling onions at a subsidised price of Rs 25/kg through mobile vans and at the outlets along with pulses for Rs 60/kg.
