13 people including the priest sustained burn injuries in the Ujjain Mahakaal temple during the morning Bhasm Aarti.
According to people present in the Aarti, the fire blew when the Gulal was spread in the air. During the accident thousands of devotees were celebrating Holi at the Ujjain Mahakaal temple.
According to injured worker of the temple, someone threw Gulal on the body of the priest Sanjeev Pujari, who was doing the Aarti. The Gulal had some chemical in it which intensified the flame of the Aarti and people caught fire.
In the garbhgrih of the temple, flex which was put to cover the silver layering, caught fire and immediately fire spread. The fire extinguisher placed in the temple was used to douse the fire. But till then 13 people including the priest Sanjeev Pujari caught fire.
Ujjain Collector Neeraj Singh said that the administration is probing the reasons behind the accident and has set up a committee for investigation.
Among the injured, six are serious and have been sent to Indore for treatment while others are being treated at district hospital Ujjain.
