In last 10 days two RAS officers have been suspended for not joining the post of Assistant Collector Bundi after being transferred.
During sensitive times like election, denial of joining duty is prima facie looks like disobedience and sheer neglect towards duty.
“Officers should act responsibly in such conditions. They should have first joined and then take up the issues if any suitably with the government,” said R C Jain, who had served as president of RAS association for four years.
On October 24, 2023, Nidhi Singh, 2017 batch RAS officer was suspended when she didn't join the post of Assistant Collector, Bundi. She was serving as Assistant Director, Medical & Health (IEC), Jaipur.
Later on October 30, Kulraj Meena, a 2015 batch officer, who was serving as managing director Jaipur Dairy, was transferred to Bundi. He also refrained from joining and was suspended.
“Such acts bring bad repute to premier civil service like RAS where officers are duty bound to serve in interest of public. This is sheer case of disobedience and officers should be severely punished to set an example for others,” said a senior RAS officer who didn't want to be named.
Recently, an IAS officer Ng Roben Singh of Manipur cadre was suspended for not joining posting as deputy commissioner in the ethnic violence inflicted area. The matter hogged the national limelight.

Gaurav Bajad, president of RAS association said that the association is discussing the matter with department of personnel as the issue is sensitive and should dealt with care.
“Both the officers had different reasons for not joining. While Nidhi Singh could not join due to some family issues, Kularj Meena didn't join as he was not given ample time to join. Also, he is a senior scale officer while the post of Assistant Collector is a junior scale,” he said.
