A 2022 batch trainee IPS officer of Gujarat cadre Rohit Kumar was made to sit at New Delhi's Lajpat Nagar police station for a day after he got into a scuffle with a Havaldar of Delhi police.
Later senior officers intervened in the matter and let go the trainee IPS after he apologised to the Havaldar.
South-East District Deputy Commissioner of Delhi Police Ravi Kumar Singh refused to say anything further as the matter was being investigated.
What is the case?
The trainee IPS Rohit Kumar, who belongs to Bahadurgarh, Haryana, on Sunday night was going in a car with his friend, who was driving the car. The police stopped the car and found his friend drunk. Havaldar Harbhajan Singh, who was on duty, told his friend to not to drive the car in an inebriated condition. Kumar, who was sitting next, slapped Havaldar.
According to reports, the duo then dragged Havaldar in the car and took him to Lajpat Nagar Police station, where again fight broke out between the two. The trainee IPS and his friend dumped Havaldar at the police station and drove away.
In response to that, Havaldar called up the PCR, which brought the trainee IPS and his friend back to police station. The duo was made to sit the whole day at the police station. A senior official intervened and then the trainee IPS was released after writing an apology to the Havaldar.
