The alleged torture
What is the case
In April, 2023 an FIR was registered against Balveer Singh based on a complaint from a victim named Subash. He accused the IPS officer of knocking out teeth with cutting pliers and stones. Later more people came up alleging custodial torture against the ASP. Some also alleged that the officer had crushed their testicles.
He had allegedly tortured around 15 suspects in three different police stations – Kallidaikurichi, Vikramasingapuram and Ambasamudram.
The Tamil Nadu government had suspended Singh after receiving the complaints.
The government had asked senior IAS P Amudha to enquire into the case who recommended to transfer the enquiry to CB-CID.
According to reports, the investigation into the four cases against Balveer has been completed by the Tamil Nadu Crime Branch-CID police, who will be filing a chargesheet against him.
