IPS Nina Singh who probed Sheena Bora murder, Nirav Modi cases gets additional charge of DG CISF

Nina Singh, a 1989 batch officer of Rajasthan cadre, has been given additional charge of Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) following superannuation of Sheel Vardhan Singh, who retires today.

Nina Singh, who is currently posted as special DG of CISF, will hold the additional charge till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

As the DG CISF, Nina Singh will head the 1.76 lakh-personnel strong central armed police force, which is mandated to guard civil airports, the Delhi Metro and sensitive installations in the aerospace and nuclear domain.

Known to be a bold and intelligent officer, Singh has many firsts to her credit. She is the first woman IPS of Rajasthan cadre to attain DG rank. She also happens to be the first woman IPS from Rajasthan to be honoured with the President's Police Medal, a highly prestigious award. Nina was then on central deputation posted as the Joint Director in the CBI force.

Who is Nina Singh

Nina Singh is a native of Bihar and daughter of Ganesh Lal Das, who had served as ADM in Bihar government. After graduation from Patna Women's College, Nina Singh did post graduation from JNU and then went for further studies to Harvard University.

After clearing , Nina was allotted IPS in Manipur cadre. Later she got married to Rohit Kumar Singh, an IAS officer of her batch, who is now serving as consumer affairs. Since Rohit Kumar Singh is from the Rajasthan cadre, Nina Singh also got transferred to Rajasthan after marriage.

Like Nina Singh, Rohit Kumar Singh is also considered a ‘go-getter' officer with impressive track record as joint secretary Highways and member (finance) in NHAI.

Why Nina is famous?

Nina Singh is an intelligent police officer. On her six years central deputation in CBI, she had handled several high profile cases like Sheena Bora murder case, PNB scam, Nirav case, actress Zia Khan suicide mystery and Chhota Rajan case among others.

Besides her image as an officer dealing criminals with iron hand, Nina is known to be sensitive towards women and has created many security systems to empathize with them.

According to several media reports, she under took various remedial steps for the security of women during her tenure as member secretary at the State Women's Commission in Rajasthan. She was the one who had prepared the structure of the Women Commission, which is still functioning successfully.
