Surendra Singh Yadav to be DGP of Chandigarh

IPS Surendra Singh Yadav, who comes from Rajasthan, has been named DGP of Chandigarh in a revised order by Ministry of Home Affairs

, a 1997 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer has been named the director general of police () for Chandigarh in a revised order. 

The current DGP of Chandigarh Praveer Ranjan, a 1993 batch IPS of AGMUT cadre will get relieved soon. The outgoing DGP has been assigned to the role of Additional Director General in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Ranjan had joined Chandigarh police in August 2021.

In its earlier order in February this year, Madhup Kumar Tiwari of 1995 batch was named the Chandigarh DGP while Surendra Singh Yadav was posted as DGP Andaman and Nicobar islands. 

The modification comes into effect immediately and is in accordance with the approval of the competent authority, states the revised order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday.

Yadav's transfer is part of the ongoing administrative reshuffle, and in addition to the transfer, the MHA has revoked the earlier transfer and posting orders of IPS officers Madhup Kumar Tiwari and Devesh Chandra Srivastava (AGMUT:1995).

Who is Surendra Singh Yadav?

A native of Alwar, Rajasthan, Surendra Singh Yadav comes from a humble background. He became IPS at the age of 22. His father at an early age but his mother did not compromise on his studies and sold milk to fund Yadav's studies. He did post graduation from Rajasthan University before joining IPS.

A 1997 batch IPS officer, Surendra Singh Yadav among few officers who was hit with bullet while fighting insurgency in . That didn't dampen his spirit. When he was posted in anti corruption bureau in New , he exposed big scams including Common Wealth Games and Jal Board among others and arrested record 55 corrupt officials to clean up the mess. His stint as Inspector General in Puducherry has also been remarkable.
