The model code of conduct is being implemented strictly in Rajasthan. The fact that enforcement agencies so far have seized cash, illegal liquor, gold, silver and other materials worth Rs 500 crore in 25 days is just an indication of the high level monitoring and coordination being done at top level.
During last elections, the seizure during the corresponding period the seizure was Rs 70 crore, which is just 14% of the current capture.
Rajasthan's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Praveen Gupta told The BuckStopper that the election commission is committed to conduct free, fair and inducement free election and for that the commission will take every possible step.
“The Election Commision of India (ECI) has appointed 234 observers for Rajasthan including expenditure and police observers. There are around 100 IAS, 71 Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers and 63 IPS to ensure free and fair election,” he said.
Gupta said that observers have been instructed to monitor social media and ensure corrective action.
“We have developed a mechanism through IT intervention to monitor each and every activity at booth level sitting back in the war room. We are responding to every complaint we are getting about violation of code and conduct or about hate speeches. Notices are being served immediately. No one can take things easy,” he said.
The BuckStopper, run by a group of seasoned journalists, holds the powerful accountable. The buck stops with them, as they cannot shrug off their official responsibilities.
