Sujata Chaturvedi, a 1989 batch IAS officer from Bihar cadre, who is serving in the centre a sports secretary, has been appointed as member of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). She was scheduled to retired in June this year. Now her tenure would be for five years till she attains the age of sixty-five years.
Chaturvedi has previously served as an additional secretary, department of personnel and training (DoPT). While serving in Bihar, she has the opportunity to be the first woman officer to hold charge of the head of finance department.
The UPSC is headed by a chairpersonand can have a maximum of 10 members. The UPSC conducts several All India Services including civil services examination annually in three stages — preliminary, main and interview.
The chairman of UPSC Preeti Sudan, former union health secretary, who joined last year in August, has retired today.
