Sonia Gandhi should contest Rajya Sabha poll from Rajasthan, proposes state Congress

Rajasthan state Congress proposes party high command to field Sonia Gandhi from Rajasthan for Rajya Sabha polls

Rajasthan Congress has sent proposal for Sonia Gandhi to contest Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.

Currently former prime minister Manmohan Singh is member of parliament from this seat. His tenure is going to end. The last date of filing nomination is February 15, 2024 while the election is scheduled on February 27, 2024 for 56 seats of 15 states.

Both – Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasara and leader of opposition – have sent separate proposal to central high command for sending Sonia Gandhi to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan.

Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasara said that he had discussed with all the senior leaders of the party before proposing her candidature from Rajasthan.

“If Sonia Gandhi agrees to contest from Rajasthan, it will enthuse the workers and leaders of the state. But we are yet to hear anything from her and high command,” said a senior Congress leader.

Leader of opposition Tikaram Jully said that he has requested Congress president for approving her candidature.

“This will be a great motivation for workers and leaders ahead of elections,” Juli said.

Poll on three seats, two to BJP and one to Congress

Three seats are getting vacant. Out of these, two are likely to be won by BJP and one by Congress as per strength in the house. Currently, Bhupendra Yadav and Kirodi Lal Meena are from BJP while Manmohan Singh is representing Congress. Kirodi Lal Meena, who is now cabinet minister in Rajasthan government, has already resigned from Rajya Sabha.

Madhya Pradesh Congress too wants Sonia Gandhi to contest

Madhya Pradesh state Congress has also sent a similar proposal of fielding Sonia Gandhi for Rajya Sabha from the state.

While proposals are coming for Sonia Gandhi to become Rajya Sabha member, there is still not clarity whether Sonia Gandhi will contest Lok Sabha election or not.

Sonia Gandhi represents Rae Bareli from Uttar Pradesh.
