Samit Sharma calls for water neutral industrial development

Samit Sharma, PHED secretary and Vijai N,ember secretary of Rajasthan Pollution Control Board advocated for sustainable development through judicious use of natural resources

Samit Sharma, secretary of PHED and ground water department called for water neutral industrial development to make self sufficient in terms of water requirement. 

“Industries should develop technologies to reduce use of water. They should adopt water conservation measures and set up waste water treetment plants to optimise the water usage,” Sharma said while speaking at the seventh edition of the Environment Summit organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (), an industry body. 

Samit Sharma said that the country should focus on sustainable development by conserving the environment and curbing the irrational use of natural resources.

“Development can continue only when the environment supports it and there is optimum utilisation of resources with minimum pollution,” he said.

Citing examples of environment-friendly countries like Japan and Israel, Samit Sharma said that there is larger need for water and all of us should contribute to it.

Calling upon people of , he said that people check wastage of water at their homes as Rajasthan is already reeling under water shortage and dipping water level. 

, a 2003 batch IFS officer, who is working as member secretary, Rajasthan Pollution Control Board, said that the society should strive for sustainability, which is an ideal situation.

“We need to take up comprehensive approach for sustainability by ensuring delicate balance between social, economic and environmental needs. For that we have to promote inclusive development, ensure equal access to basic services for everyone while conserving natural resources at the same time,” he said. 

As many as 14 green rating companies were awarded for promoting environment conservation. These companies included Hero MotoCorp, Daikin and HPCL among others. Vijai N gave away the awards.

The conference also focused on highlighting good practices of industries towards attaining sustainable development. Captains of industries share their ideas and models to arrive at a consensus on promoting environmental conservation while driving industrial growth.
