In his affidavit submitted before the election commission, Sachin Pilot has declared himself as divorcee in martial status column. This is the first time Pilot has declared publicly about his current marital status.
Pilot was married to National Conference leader and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah's daughter Sara Abdullah.
Theirs was a love marriage and the couple has two sons – Aran and Vihaan – who are staying with Pilot after the divorce.
In his affidavit, Pilot has declared his sons as dependent on him.
Sara had attended oath ceremony
In 2018 when Sachin Pilot had taken oath as deputy chief minister, Sara Abdullah and Omar Abdullah were present in the ceremony.

Union of two political families
Sara Abdullah is daughter of National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah sister of Omar Abdullah – both former chief ministers of Jammu & Kashmir. Her grandfather Sheikh Abdullah was also the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Pilot is the son of deceased Congress leader Rajesh Pilot, who had been union union minister several times.
Both come from strong political background.Sachin belonged to a typical Uttar Pradesh Gurjar family while Sara was from a conservative Kashmiri Muslim background. They came from different cultures but their love knew no boundaries. After dating for several years, they got married in 2004 in the month of January in Delhi in a very simple wedding function.

Sara and Pilot met while pursuing higher education at Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
