Rajasthan government has suspended RAS officer Akash Ranjan after he has to spent 48 hours in police custody in a corruption case on July, 15, 2024.
During the period of suspension he will have to report to principal secretary, department of personnel.
What is the case against Akash Ranjan?
Akash Ranjan, an RAS officer promoted from tehsildar services, was serving as assistant commissioner in the Devasthan department.
The corruption case against him pertains to 2017 when he was tehsildar in Alwar district. According to ACB, a complainant named Chander Singh from Tijara approached ACB accusing tehsildar Akash Ranjan, middleman Man Singh and assistant office superintendent Radheshyam Maurya for demanding money for attesting will of a property in favour of Chander Singh's sons and his brother's son.
The ACB caught middleman and assistant office superintendent red handed taking a bribe of Rs 8,000. However, Ranjan fled from the spot and avoided arrest till date.
The ACB found proof of Ranjan's involvement in the case and sent several notices for his presence before the court. But Ranjan kept on evading notices. Finally after 7 years, ACB arrested Akash Ranjan and kept him in custody for 48 hours.
As per the service rules, the government suspended Ranjan for the date of his arrest.
