Rajeev Verma, a 1992-batch IAS officer has been appointed as advisor to the administrator, Chandigarh Banwarilal Purohit. Verma had been serving as the chief secretary of Puducherry since May 2022.
The BuckStopper was the first to report that Verma is the front runner for the post, which was vacant since October last year when Dharam Pal, a 1988 batch officer of Punjab cadre had superannuated.
At present Nitin Kumar, a 2000 batch IAS of AGMUT, who was serving as home secretary of Chandigarh, has been given additional charge of advisor to administrator.
Rajeev Verma will be replaced by 1994-batch IAS officer Sharat Chauhan, who was so far the Principal Secretary, Finance, Planning and Investment in Arunachal Pradesh, as the CS of Puducherry.
In another significant transfer, Navin Kumar Choudhary, a 1994-batch officer who was serving as the principal secretary of the general administration department in the Mizoram government, has been transferred to Delhi.
Choudhary is likely to be appointed in a senior position either in the Delhi government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi or the New Delhi Municipal Council with senior bureaucrats posted in all three due for empanelment at the Centre.
The BuckStopper, run by a group of seasoned journalists, holds the powerful accountable. The buck stops with them, as they cannot shrug off their official responsibilities.
