Rajasthan shines in renewable sector

Rajasthan is galloping in renewable sector attracting investments from all big players of this sector. It has been awarded for contributing the maximum in solar power and being the second best overall in renewable energy towards achieving the national target of 200GW

Rajasthan is harvesting different crop from its vast stretch of desert. The crops are shining bright and bringing glory to the state. At the fourth Global Renewable Energy Investor's Meet in New Delhi, Rajasthan was felicitated for being the highest generator of solar power and also for being the second largest contributor in renewable sector as whole.

RREC is the nodal agency of renewable sector

Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RREC) is the nodal agency for renewable projects in the stage. The agency has aggressive plans in the renewable sector. The chairman Alok Gupta, who is also the principal secretary to and Nathmal Didel, managing director of RREC, have done remarkable in attracting investment in renewable energy sector in the state.

“The Bhadla solar park in the world's largest park with a capacity of 2,245 MW. With enabling policies and able leadership, Rajasthan is set to lead from the front,” said a senior official.

Currently, there are renewable projects of 28GW capacity out of which 470 crore units of power is being generated.

“Projects worth 32 GW are underway. There is potential of installing 142 GW of solar power as 284 GW of power in Rajasthan. We are targeting to set up 115 GW of solar and wind power by 2031-32,” said Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

More investment expected in Rising Rajasthan

He said that Rajasthan has prepared action plan for meeting the power requirements of next 10 years.

“We are expecting huge investment in renewable sector in Rajasthan in the upcoming Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Summit to be held from 9-11 December 2024,” he said. 

Sharma said that the state has initiated several steps to strengthen the power infrastructure in the state. 

“We have signed MoU of Rs 1.64 lakh crore with public sector units (PSUs). Apart from that, the central government has approved three ultra mega renewable energy park of 5,292 MW in Rajasthan. We have also identified eight sites for setting up pump storage projects of 7 GW. For that we have simplified the process of setting up pump storage projects,” he said.
