Rajasthan education dept cancels leaves of teachers amid board exams

Rajasthan education department has cancelled leaves of all teachers including child cadre leaves which is being opposed by teachers unions

education minister Madan Dilawar said that the all kinds of leaves of teachers including the child care leave (CCL) have been cancelled as during board examinations teachers may have to take extra classes for students.

“We are helpless. We can't do much about it,” Dilawar said. 

Naveen Jain has directed all schools and institutions heads to cancel sanctioned leaves of teachers for hassle free conduct of board examinations, which have been classified as the urgent  and most important service. 

As per the letter issued by the education department, all teachers will have to work for the conduct of board examination. If there is violation then strict action will be taken.

Teachers and staff unions opposing decision of Rajasthan education dept

While the decision of education department is being considered a bold and essential step for conducting error free board examinations, a few teachers unions and staff unions have objected to the decision. They are planning to give a memorandum to chief minsiter seeking a roll back of the decision.

“How can cancel child care leave (CCL). There are many teachers whose sons or daughters are appearing for board examination. To help them in preparations, teachers have applied for CCL. How can they be denied leaves when there is provision for it for the purpose of preparing their wards for exams?” said a union leader. 

The exams of XII board started from February 29 and will be held till April 4, 2024 while the X board examinations will be held from 7-30 March, 2024.

There are around four lakh teachers in government schools. The number of students appearing for X board is around 12 lakh while those appearing for XII are more than 2.5 lakh.
