Countdown for ‘internal election' of chief minister of Rajasthan has begun in BJP. The national president J P Nadda had discussions with senior party leaders about the probable names before finalising the candidate.
Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje is going to Delhi tonight. Amid speculations that Raje is going to meet senior leader tomorrow, she said that she was going to meet her daughter-in-law in Delhi. This will be Raje's first visit to Delhi after winning the elections. Though she had met close to 40 MLAs after results at her residence.
Suspense over name of CM
This is the first time that there is suspense around the name chief minister with BJP coming into power. Earlier it was Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, who had been the natural choice and from 2003 to 2018, BJP had fought election on Raje as the CM face.
“Raje has been CM twice. She is very popular leader but like Ashok Gehlot even she could not repeat her government,” said a senior BJP leader.
In 2023 elections prime minister Narendra Modi, who repeated his government at the centre and had been four times chief minister of Gujarat, opted to go it in election on party symbol with no face. Though it was Modi's guarantees that won BJP not only Rajasthan but Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh also.
“Since no state leader including Vasundhara can stake claim for victory in Rajasthan, the decision of who will be the chief minister will be taken at central level. And everyone will have to accept,” said a senior leader.
