Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot tendered apology over his statement on corruption in judiciary which created ripples in political as well as judiciary circle.
Gehlot in a reply to the High Court, said that whatever he has said was not his opinion.
“Former judges have also referred about corruption in judiciary in their statements. In my statement also, I had quoted them while saying. Even then if my statement had brought any disgrace to judiciary, I apologise,” Gehlot said in his reply.
The bench of chief justice of High Court A G Masih, while taking the statement of Ashok Gehlot on record, has fixed next date of hearing on November 7, 2023.
Advoacte representing on Gehlot's behalf Prateek Kasliwal said that the defendant has produced documents containing statements of former judges along with the reply of Gehlot.
Gehlot, in August this year, had said there was rampant corruption in the judiciary , and that he had heard that some lawyers write judgments which are then pronounced.
“Aaj jo bataiye itna corruption ho raha hai judiciary ke andar. Itna bhayankar corruption hai, kai wakil log toh maine suna hai, likh ke le jaate hain judgment aur judgment wohi aata hai (Tell me, so much corruption is there in the judiciary today. Corruption is so much… I have heard that some lawyers write the judgment and take it along, and that judgment comes),” Gehlot had told reporters.
