The stripping of a pregnant woman, who was paraded naked in a village in Rajasthan, brought nation-wide embarrassment for the state. The National Commission for Women (NCW) had strongly condemned the act. Now the same woman commission has all the praise for Pratapgarh police who has arrested all the 11 accused including husband of the woman swinging into action in no time. The police took suo moto action and filed FIR on its own.
The commission has acknowledged the promptness of Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar, who himself led the team to arrest the accused while providing safety and comfort to the victim and her family. Kumar has recently been awarded with ‘Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation' for the year 2023.

The promptness of Amit Kumar, a 2018 batch IPS, was appreciated by Additional Director General of Police (Technical Services) V K Singh who in an appreciation letter to Kumar wrote that FIR was promptly registered, evidences were secured and accused were apprehended without loss of time.
“I am sure there cannot be a better example of police responsiveness and it has set a high standard for others to follow,” He wrote.
Singh further wrote, “Earlier also you worked out a case proactively and acted against a well organised gang of thieves who siphoned off milk and other midday meal items of poor tribal children in Pratapgarh.”
Meanwhile, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo moto cognisance of the matter. It has sent notices to Chief Secretary and Director General of police seeking detailed report on the case within four weeks. The NHRC wants to know the status of investigation after FIR and about what action has been taken against the accused.
