Top poll strategist of BJP Om Prakash Mathur, who had a key role in BJP's game changing victory in Chhattisgarh assembly election and almost clean sweep in Lok Sabha elections, has taken up the gubernatorial role. He has been named Governor of Sikkim.
An electoral war horse Om Prakash Mathur had been instrumental for victories of BJP in states like Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Now perhaps the party has decided to withdraw him from active politics and offered him role of the Governor.
A dedicated pracharak of RSS, Om Prakash Mathur has held several posts in national BJP unit including general secretary and vice president. He is an organisation man and has a rich experience of knitting units.
As the Governor of a north-eastern state – Sikkim – Mathur will have a major role to ensure proper implementation of centre's developmental programme in the state.
Mathur, 72, will replace Lakshman Prasad Acharya, who has been made Governor of Assam with additional charge of Manipur.
