Nayab Singh Saini, a close confidante of Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, has been named as the new chief minister of Haryana.
Saini, an influential OBC leader, was made state chief in October. Now he has been given responsibility of chief minister. This move is aimed at killing three birds with one stone – dilute anti incumbency and farmer anger against a 9 year CM, divide Jat vote by getting JJP out of alliance and to consolidate BJP's non Jat vote.
This will help in increasing chances of BJP to win all the 10 seats in Lok Sabha polls. The split in BJP-JJP alliance is unlikely to affect the fortune of BJP in Lok Sabha election. In the current assembly also BJP with 41 seats, has majority with the support of independents and Gopal Kanda of Haryana Lokhit Party.
However, Nayab Singh is likely to face Nayab Saini will have to face challenges in managing the senior MLAs like Anil Vij while running result oriented government. Anil Vij is reportedly fumed with this leadership change.
Vij considers himself as the natural contender for the top job in Haryana.
Nayab Singh Saini, who was in Khattar's cabinet in 2014, had won the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Kurukshetra with a massive margin.
