Jogeshwar Garg, MLA from Jalore, has been appointed as the chief whip Rajasthan government in the assembly.
A five time MLA, Garg has been given a new role of floor management for the ruling party.
In the last term of assembly, Garg had served as the whip when BJP was in the opposition. He had performed well as the whip and probably given this post due to his experience, seniority and his past performance in the role of whip.
In absence of senior BJP leaders Rajendra Rathore and Satish Poonia, Garg will have a big responsibility to manage the debate and counter arguments in the session. The first session of the new assembly is scheduled to start from January 19, 2024.
Jogeshwar Garg is an RSS man
Jogeshwar Garg has a strong RSS background. He had been active in the organisation since 1968. He had participated in the Ekta yatra conducted by prime minister Narendra Modi and Murli Manohar Joshi in early 90s.
Garg was present there when national flag was hoisted at the famous Lal Chowk of Srinagar.
A veteran BJP leader, Garg had been state minister with independent charge in Bhairon Singh Shekhawat government in 1990. He was handling UDH, LSG, Ayurveda and PHED.
A strong dalit face in the party, Garg said that he will try to live up to the expecting one of the leadership.
“My job will be to maintain relationship between ruling party and the opposition and ensure that the assembly is conducted without any obstruction. I have good relationship with leaders of Congress and I hope things will turn up in a good manner,” he said.
Jogeshwar Garg was a banker and had worked in insurance sector before contesting his first election in 1990. He had worked in Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) from 1980-83. Later he joined Marwar Grameen Bank and worked till 1990 before taking a plunge in politics.
