Jaipur police commissioner Biju George Joseph warned police officials against indulging in settlement of disputed land and properties.
He said that the duty of police is to maintain law and order and control crime and criminals. Police is not meant for settlement of disputed properties.
“Strict action will be taken if anyone found indulged in these activities. If such disputes get resolved in presence of police, it reflects a bad picture,” he said.
Recently an SHO of a police station in Jaipur was suspended after he was found helping a party take possession of a disputed land by arresting people of the other party who were already holding on the ground. The involvement of police in this case was widely criticised and Joseph took strong action against the SHO.
“If such incident is repeated strong action will be taken. I hope the kind of enthusiasm officers show in cases of disputed land, they will work towards controlling crimes with equal aplomb,” he said.
Special wing for resolving land matters
The Jaipur Commissionerate will set up a special wing to looking into matters related to land and properties. It will be headed by an officer of the level of additional SP, who will monitor the cases related to land disputes being registered with various police stations. The additional SP will probe facts of the matter before producing the case in the court.
