IPS Rajiv Ratan dies of heart attack months ahead of his retirement 

Rajiv Ratan, a 1991-batch IPS officer, who was serving as Director General of Telangana Vigilance and Enforcement Department, died of a heart attack months ahead of his retirement due in September this year.

Rajiv Ratan was promoted to the rank of Director General of Police last year. He is survived by wife and a son.

A Revanth Reddy and Governor C P Radhakrishnan condoled the death of Ratan, who was heading the inquiry into the alleged corruption in the construction of Medigadda barrage of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme.

Rajiv Ratan was admitted to a private  on Monday night after he complained of chest pain.

Grieved by the death of Ratan, the chief minister A Revanth Reddy said that police department and the state will  remember his distinguished services for a long time. The community will never forget the officers who performed their duties efficiently and honestly, he said.

In an official statement, Raj Bhavan stated, “Serving as Director General of Telangana Vigilance and Enforcement, his sudden passing due to a massive heart attack at AIG Hospital has deeply saddened all. Recognized widely for his exemplary service, Governor Radhakrishnan emphasized Late Sri Rajiv Ratan's enduring legacy of dedicated service to the police department. Hon'ble Governor joins in mourning the loss and extends his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family”.

In his 33-year long career, Ratan had worked as DG of Fire Services, managing director of Police Housing Corporation, General of Police (Organisation), IG  and SP Karimnagar among various postings.

Rajiv Ratan was considered as an efficient officer. He had led many important investigations during his career. Many young police officers looked upon him as mentor and he had trained many officers. As DG vigilance and enforcement department he was playing an important role in uprooting the corruption in government system.
