IPS Nitin Deep Blaggan tenure extended, IAS Rajesh Yadav repatriated

Nitin Deep Blaggan, a 2003-batch IPS serving as joint director in CBI, gets extension of two years while Rajesh Yadav, 1996-batch IAS officer has been prematurely repatriated to Rajasthan from central deputation

Nitin Deep Blaggan, a 2003-batch IPS officer, who has been on central deputation to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has got his tenure extended for a period of two years beyond October 8, 2024. Blaggan is serving as joint director in CBI. He went on central deputation in October 2019. He will be completing his five-year tenure in October this year. Before that, he has been given extension of two years.

With that his deputation will be of seven years. Before going on deputation, Blaggan was serving as deputy inspector general in Special Operations Group (SOG) in Rajasthan .

A native of Amritsar and a medico, Nitin Deep Blaggan has served as Superintendent of Police in districts like Ajmer, Jaipur rural, Jodhpur rural, Rajsamand, Sikar, Bhilwara and Barmer before serving as additional in .

At the same time, Rajesh Kumar Yadav, a 1996-batch officer, has been given premature repatriation to his parent cadre on personal grounds with imposition of extended cooling off condition. He was serving as joint secretary in the department of empowerment of persons with disabilities.

Yadav had gone on deputation in March 2022 and left the assignment before completing three years, which is considered minimum tenure for deputation. Now if he goes for central deputation again, his cooling off period in home cadre shall be calculated from the date he would have completed his normal deputation not from the date of his actual repatriation, which is premature.

Why Rajesh Yadav opted for premature repatriation?

Rajesh Kumar Yadav had sought premature repatriation on personal grounds. However, sources say that Yadav was not happy with the profile he was handling at centre. He has not been empanelled for additional secretary when officers at least three batches junior to him were empanelled for additional secretary level posts.

“Yadav is an active officer. The post he was handling was not of his calibre. He tried to get good posting at centre but things were not working in his favour. He deserved better posting on deputation,” said a senior IAS officer who has seen working of Yadav.

Before going on deputation, Yadav was serving as principal secretary in public works department. Before that also, he was handling some important departments Rajasthan government including PHED, transport, labour, skill development and livelihood. He had been collector in several districts including Jaisalmer, Sirohi, Bikaner, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Pali, Dausa and Ajmer.

Fourth IAS to have repatriated this year?

Rajasthan chief secretary Sudhansh Pant was the first to repatriate from central deputation to take over as chief secretary on January 1. He was serving as union health secretary.

Then Alok, who is currently serving as energy, came back from deputation. He was serving as additional secretary in National Disaster Management Authority.
Few months back, Debasish Prushty finds his way back to home cadre. He was on an international assignment working as deputy chief of mission in Brussels.
