Immediately after the approval of inter-cadre deputation for Nalin Prabhat from Andhra Pradesh cadre to AGMUT, the home ministry appointed him as the special DG of Jammu & Kashmir Police. His tenure as director general of National Security Guard (NSG) was also curtailed.
Prabhat, a 1992 batch IPS is set to become director general of Jammu & Kashmir police after the incumbent Rashmi Ranjan Swain, a 1991 batch IPS retires on September 30, 2024.

Rules relaxed for appointment of Nalin Prabhat
The ACC sanctioned Prabhat's inter-cadre deputation from Andhra Pradesh to the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre for an initial period of three years, or until further orders, whichever comes first. This decision was made in relaxation of the inter-cadre deputation guidelines.
