IPS Govind Gupta promoted to DG

Govind Gupta, a 1993-batch IPS has been promoted to Director General after the retirement of Janga Sriniwas Rao

Govind Gupta, a 1993-batch IPS officer, who is serving as general, has been promoted to director general. He is currently posted in planning, modernisation and welfare department. He will continue to hold the existing portfolio till further orders.The promotion of Gupta is due to vacancy created after the retirement of Janga Sriniwas Rao, who was serving as Director General Training, Policing and Human Rights. 

Batchmate of Govind Gupta, Sunil Dutt, who is serving as additional director general, rules at police headquarters, however will have to wait for elevation. He is due to retire in August this year.

Govind Gupta, a native of Karauli, is a post graduate in computer engineering. He had served at several important posts including additional director general vigilance, IG and order, range IG of Kota, Bikaner and Udaipur. He had also been SP of districts like Udaipur, Bhilwara, Kota (rural), Nagaur, Sawai Madhopur and Dholpur. 

Four cadre posts of DG in Rajasthan

There are four cadre posts of DG in Rajasthan and the government can appoint two more on ex-cadre posts. So in total there are six posts of DG in . With the elevation of Govind Gupta, there are now eight DG level officers, out of which two – Nina Singh and Rajeev Sharma – are on central .

Six DGs posted in Rajasthan are – U R Sahoo, Ravi Prakash Meharda, Rajesh Nirwan, Hemant Priyadrashy, Sanjay Kumar Agarwal and Govind Gupta.
