IPS couple – Binita Thakur and Vikram Thakur – from Rajasthan cadre have been empanelled as additional director general (ADG) and equivalent posts at centre. Both are 1996 batch IPS officers. Binita Thakur is currently serving as additional director general, police housing in Rajasthan while her husband Vikram Thakur is currently posted as joint director, intelligence bureau headquarter in New Delhi.
Binita Thakur, had earlier worked on central deputation with NatGrid under union home ministry and at Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). She had also been private secretary to Smriti Irani, who was union HRD ministry, from September 2014-September 2015.
Vikram Thakur is considered essentially an intelligence officer with good expertise of working with Intel. He had been with SIB Delhi and Jaipur before moving to the headquarters.
Inter cadre transfer after 27 years
Vikram Thakur was earlier with Uttar Pradesh cadre and got inter cadre transfer to Rajasthan after 27 years in June 2023 on the basis of marriage.
The rare decision came after the clearance (NoC) of respective state governments – the BJP-ruled government in Uttar Pradesh (Yogi government) and the Congress-ruled government (Gehlot government).
“It's great gesture shown by centre, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan government on humanitarian ground. The decision had come after the duo lost their daughter in an unfortunate incident in New York, where she had gone to study management,” said a senior IPS officer.
