IPS Biju George Joseph, a 1995-batch officer, has been empanelled in the rank of additional director general at centre. He is the only IPS officer from Rajasthan among 39 officers who has been approved by appointments committee of the cabinet for empanelment at centre.
Biju George Joseph is currently serving as police commissioner of Jaipur and has been in news for arresting killers of Shri Rashtriya Karni Sena president Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in committed time.
There was immense pressure on Jaipur police to arrest the shooters as it caught international headlines. There was suspected involvement of Lawrence Bishnoi gang and the murder was planned abroad. But Joseph lived upto the expectations of the government, public and the police department and with the help of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi police, his team was able to nab the killers before they could cross the border to Nepal.
A native of Kerala, Joseph is considered as an upright and honest cop with unblemished record. He is known to lead by example. He believes in working at the ground level rather than being a back room strategy person.
Ordered the arrest of Asaram
He is considered as a strict and no nonsense officer. His boldness was evident when he executed the arrest of Asaram as the Commissioner of Jodhpur Police. There was immense political and other pressure for letting the rape accused Asaram go. But he instructed his team not to budge under pressure and book the culprit on merit of the case.
A recipient of President's medal for distinguished service, Joseph is known to be empathetic toward public. While he deals criminals with iron hand, he gives all ears to victim.
