IFS Nidhi Tewari appointed PS to PM

Nidhi Tewari has been appointed as the Private Secretary to Prime Narendra Modi. According to an official order issued by the government, Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer Nidhi Tewari has been appointed as PM Modi's private secretary.

Who is Nidhi Tewari?

Nidhi Tewari has previously worked in the PMO as the Deputy Secretary since November 2022. Earlier she was working as the Under Secretary at of External Affairs' Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division.

According to the memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on March 29, the Appointments Committee of the has approved Tewari's appointment with immediate effect.

She will assume the role of Private Secretary at Level 12 of the pay matrix on a co-terminus basis or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the notification said.

Tewari secured 96th rank in the Civil Services Examination, 2013. She hails from Mehmurganj in Varanasi. Tewari had a brief stint at the Ministry of External Affairs before joining PMO. She served in the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division.

Before clearing the Civil Services Examination in 2013, she worked as an Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi while preparing for the exam alongside her job.

At the PMO, she has served as Deputy Secretary in the ‘Foreign and Security' vertical, which reports to National Security Ajit Doval. She specifically took care of areas such as External Affairs, Atomic Energy and Security Affairs, as well as the of Rajasthan.
