IFS Kanchan Devi joins as the first woman DG of ICFRE

Kanchan Devi, a 1991 batch Indian Forest Service (IFS) has joined Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) to become the first woman Director General of the council.

Recently, another IFS officer Sonali Ghosh, a 2000-2003 batch officer was appointed as the first woman Field Director of Kaziranga National Park.

Devi has more than 30 years of experience in different areas of forestry, including forest , forest , education, HRD and research and extension in the state of Madhya Pradesh and of India including as faculty member at National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun. During her service tenure, she worked for the uplift of rural communities by implementing, analysing and recommending updation of existing forest policies, etc.

She has been serving ICFRE in her capacity as Deputy Director for the last four years.

ICFRE is a premier organisation formed to achieve long-term ecological stability, sustainable and economic security through conservation and scientific management of forest ecosystems.

The council's objective was to generate, advance and disseminate scientific knowledge and technologies for ecological security, improved productivity, livelihoods enhancement and sustainable use of forest resources through forestry research and education.
