, a 2013 batch of Kerala cadre, courted controversy over  reaction of a WhatsApp group of officers donning colour.

During Diwali festivities, a WhatsApp Group for IAS officers named ‘Mallu Hindu Officers' was created with K Gopalakrishnan as admin of the group. The group added senior and junior IAS officers soon after the creation.

According to reports, the group was created to share Diwali greetings. However, some IAS officers expressed concerns about the appropriateness of forming such a group, especially due to its religious connotation. Following the ensuing controversy, the group was deleted within hours.

Gopalakrishnan, who is working as director , however has denied any involvement in the creation of a controversial WhatsApp group for Hindu IAS officers, which has come under scrutiny.

He lodged a complaint with the Cyber Cell, alleging that the WhatsApp account had been hacked. He also sent a message to the group members claiming that a incident had occurred and denied any involvement.

The message from K. Gopalakrishnan read: “Dear all, it appears that someone has taken control of my mobile device, creating 11 groups and adding all my contacts. I have uninstalled the app, manually removed the groups from my WhatsApp, and will be changing my phone soon.” The message was marked with the subject line, “Important Notice.”
