The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved re-employment of Sunil Kumar Gupta as secretary to the vice president on contract basis with effect from January 1, 2024, i.e. after his superannuation on December 31, 2023, in the rank and pay of secretary to the government of India, on co-terminus basis with the tenure of the vice president.
Gupta, a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the West Bengal cadre, was appointed as the secretary to the vice president in August last year and he is scheduled to retire on December 31,
2023.

Sunil Kumar Gupta, a native of Uttar Pradesh is a civil engineer from IIT Kanpur. He remained in home cadre throughout his career and was deputed to centre in August 2022 only to join as secretary to vice president Dhankar.
Sunil Kumar Gupta was picked up by Jagdeep Dhankar when he was the Governor of West Bengal during July 30, 2019-July 18,2022. Gupta was then serving as additional chief secretary of water resources, investigation and development department.
