Rohit Kumar Singh, secretary, consumer affairs in the union government has hung up his boots after 35 years of illustrious service. His more than two-year tenure as secretary consumer affairs had been eventful. Right from controlling prices of essential commodities to c protection of consumer rights, Rohit Kumar Singh batted on front foot.
Nidhi Khare, a 1992-batch IAS has replaced Rohit Kumar Singh. Prior to this she secretary in land resources department. Nidhi Khare had worked in consumer affairs department earlier also as additional secretary and then special secretary. She was the first chief commissioner of Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA).
A 1989-batch Rajasthan cadre officer, Rohit Kumar Singh had been a media friendly officer and knew the importance of good and bad publicity. He is married to IPS Nina Singh, who has the distinction of being the first woman director general of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

An alumnus of IIT (BHU) and Harvard University, Rohit Kumar has served in various departments in centre as well as in Rajasthan. He had served in cultural ministry, NHAI and road and transport ministry at centre while in Rajasthan, he had worked in departments like medical health, home, information technology, rural development, public relations and commercial taxes among others.

Hailed as an efficient and effective officer, Rohit Kumar Singh has left his mark in whatever departments he had served.
Singh led the government initiative of reviving Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in National Highways via key policy interventions like the Hybrid Annuity Model through appropriate risk allocation among the public and private partners. He also successfully led the initiative of asset recycling of public funded national highways (Toll Operate Transfer Model) that resulted in one of the largest FDI in the highways sector amounting to USD 1.5 billion, one of the first successful asset monetisation in India.
As Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Medical, Health & Family Welfare in Rajasthan, during the first wave of Covid-19 in the year 2020, he developed and deployed the Bhilwara Model of “ruthless containment” to successfully manage the Covid upsurge in the rural and urban hot spots across Rajasthan.
