Amid reports that Congress tickets are not getting finalised due to differences between Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, on Thursday, said that Congress is contesting this election as a united front.
“Sachin Pilot and I have been part of every decision regarding ticket selection. We have forgotten all the differences. Tickets of all supporters of Sachin Pilot are getting cleared. I have not objected to any of the candidates recommended by a sachin Pilot,” he said while addressing a press conference in Delhi.
Ducking the question on being repeated as the chief minister for the fourth time of Congress wins, Gehlot said that chief ministerial candidate never becomes chief minister in Congress.
“One should never be chief ministerial candidate. In Congress the chief ministerial candidate never becomes CM. When I has become CM, I was not the candidate. Sonia Gandhi had chosen me,” he said.
Gehlot further said that he had earlier said that he wanted to quit the chief minister post.
“But this post is not letting me quit and it will not relent. There must be some reasons why high command and Gandhi family have been putting trust in me,” Gehlot said.
Showing concern over sidelining of former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, Gehlot said that a Raje should not be penalised for his statement.
“During 2020 crisis, when my government was at risk, I had once abruptly said that Vasundhara Raje and Kailash Meghwal had the feeling that government should not be fallen like that. People interpreted my feelings by adding favours to it,” he said.
