High Court issues notice to Gehlot, seeks reply within three weeks over ‘corruption in judiciary’ remark

has issued a show-cause notice to minister Ashok Gehlot on a PIL filed by one advocate Shivcharan Gupta seeking criminal contempt proceedings against him.

A division bench headed by Justice MM Shrivastava and Justice Ashutosh Kumar issued the notice to Gehlot, directing him to respond within three weeks. The matter has been listed for a hearing on October 3.

Gehlot, on Wednesday had said that corruption is rampant in judiciary and some advocates write themselves and get that pronounced.

The statement of Gehlot had irked the advocates who went for a one-day strike on Thursday and initiated legal action in furtherance of contempt proceedings against Gehlot.

Gehlot, however, was quick in rolling back his statement a day after and said that the views what he had given was not his personal opinion. I respect judiciary and have great belief in it. Time and again several judges and chief justices of have given opinion and shown concern about corruption in judiciary,” he had said in a tweet.
