The government has reinstated the suspended officer Dharmender Singh and posted him as special in cooperative department.

Singh was arrested in May this year on the allegations of taking a bribe of Rs one crore when he was posted as municipal commissioner Sonepat in 2022.

Singh, a 2012 batch IAS promoted from civil services, was arrested from his house at Gurugram in a joint operation of Faridabad police and Special Investigation ate (SIT).

What is the complaint?

The complaint was registered by one Lalit Mittal in 2022. In his complaint, Lalit Mittal stated that he was asked to pay a bribe Rs 1.10 crore against a government tender of Sonepat municipal corporation. He gave the money to Pankaj Garg, R B Sharma and J K Bhatia, who said that the money was handed over to higher officials for releasing the tender in his favour. But when he didn't win the tender, he lodged a complaint.

The SIT which investigated the case found proof against Dharmender Singh. During the investigation, SIT also found irregularities in a building tender whose amount was raised from Rs 57 crore to Rs 87 crore without adopting proper official procedure.
