The suicide of deputy commissioner GST Sanjay Singh has trained gun at IAS M Devraj, who is serving as principal secretary GST in Uttar Pradesh government.
Sanjay Singh's wife accused government of asserting undue pressure of official work, which became reason for his committing suicide.
The Uttar Pradesh Tax Bar association has demanded removal of M Devraj from the post. Devraj is a 1996 batch IAS officer having rich experience of handling 11 districts as district collector. He had also served as principal secretary in skill development department.
Devraj had hit controversy earlier also when he was removed from the post of chairman Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited after dispute with energy minister A K Sharma. There also he didn't go well with staff union.
“There is undue pressure on every GST officer. The government has given steep target to every officer of adding five traders in amnesty scheme every day. The government threatens to suspend official on not completing the target,” said GST official.
In a show down of protest, more than 350 GST officials have quit the official WhatsApp group, which has 887 members including principal secretary GST M Devraj.
Officials have decide to mount pressure on government for the removal of Devraj. They have decided to wear black arm-band as a symbol of protest.
How Sanjay Singh committed suicide?
Sanjay Singh, who was serving as deputy commissioner GST in Ghaziabad had committed suicide a couple of days back by jumping from 14th floor of his apartment in Noida.
While state government claims that Singh was suffering from acute depression after a long drawn battle with cancel, his family members say that his cancer was cured 10-11 years back and was under extreme mental pressure due to work load.
