Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot alleged that chairman of Central Board of Direct Tax (CBDT) Nitin Gupta has been avoiding to meet him.
“CBDT chairman doesn't want to meet me even after fixing the time. The moment I shared with media that I am going to meet him, a call from his office came and conveyed me that you (Gehlot) don't come, I (Nitin Gupta) will come and meet you later,” Gehlot alleged.
Gehlot said even after the enforcement of model code of conduct, ED and Income tax are conducting raids on leaders of opposition.
“That means you are giving advantage to a party. There is gross misuse of central agencies and it has maligned the reputation of these agencies. Now ED are directly entering the houses of politicians. Earlier ED used to investigate first and then if there used to be any case then the agency would have enquired the politician. Now they are directly raiding their houses. That's the reason I wanted to meet CBDT chairman,” said Gehlot.
He said that officers of ED, CBI and Income Tax should not target with political motive.
“I would like to tell officers of central agencies to keep the integrity intact. The accountability of officers and central agencies is towards the country,” he said.
Gehlot said that during the 10 years of Congress led UPA government, ED had conducted 912 raids out of which they have filed chargesheet in 93% cases.
“In nine years of Modi government, ED has conducted 3010 raids and chargesheets have been filed in only 888 cases which is just 29% “ he said.
