Gehlot appoints retd Justice P C Gupta as chairman of farmers commission and Sudhanshu Kasliwal of Shraman board

Hours before the model code of conduct could set in, Rajasthan minister Ashok Gehlot made few appointments in commissions and board he had set up few months back. The chief minister appointed office bearers of Rajasthan State Farmers Debt Relief Commission (RSFDRC) and Shraman Sanskriti Board.

Gehlot has appointed retired Prakash Chand Gupta as the chairman of RSFDRC while former IAS and retired additional chief secretary P K Goyal, former vice chancellor of Maharana Pratap agriculture S N Rathore, Hari Kumar Godara and Sunil Gehlot have been appointed as the member of the commission.

The term of the commission is for three years. However, the may extend the term of the commission and would have the power to terminate any of the member. The commission, which has judicial power, would provide immunity to farmers against any coercive action including debt recovery by banks and financial institutions in case of crop damages.

Earlier, Gehlot also appointed office bearers of Shraman Sanskriti Board. A leading advocate Sudhanshu Kasliwal has been appointed as the chairman of the board. He is also the chairman of Digambar Jain Atishaya Kshetra Shri Mahaveer Ji Karauli, Rajasthan Committee, which manages the famous Shri Mahaveerji temple in Karauli. Prakash Singhvi has been appointed as vice chairman while Ashok Patni, Dinesh Khodania and Manish Mehta have been made members of the board. All the office bearers took charge on Friday.

The BuckStopper was the first to report on August 8, 2023 about the probable selection of Sudhanshu Kasliwal and Dinesh Khodania in the board.

The board will be constituted for a period of three years. Apart from five members from Jain society, it will also have members from government side including and commissioners of various departments. The deputy director of social justice and empowerment will be the member secretary of the board.

The main objective of the board would be to preserve the ancient traditions and culture of Jainism, one of the oldest religions in the world. The board will also propagate the beliefs and teachings of Jainism and motivate people to embrace nonviolence and truth.
