Christy Fernandez, a 1973 batch IAS, who had served a secretary to former president of India Pratibha Patil passed away in Kochi.
His funeral will be held at St. George Church cemetery, Clapana in Kollam district at 11 a.m. on December 6, according to family members.
Fernandez, 74, was suffering from gastroenterology ailments and was admitted at Lisie Hospital in Kochi two weeks ago.
A native of Kerala and Gujarat cadre officer, Fernandez had served as joint secretary in the Agriculture and Petroleum ministries, additional secretary in the Commerce ministry and principal secretary of the Gujarat Town Development Council and was secretary to the Department of Tourism.
Back home after retirement, he had tried his hands in politics and had contested 2014 Lok Sabha elections. In that duel, he had lost to K.V. Thomas of the United Democratic Front (UDF).
