A foreign educated dalit woman from Haryana Nauksham Chaudhary will represent one of the most backward assembly segments Kaman in Rajasthan assembly. She defeated Congress candidate sitting MLA Zahida.
For this 31 year old fashion designer, Kaman may be a new constituency but Mewat of which Kaman is a part, is the birth place, the part of which is in Haryana.
In 2019 Haryana assembly election, she contested from Punhana – again a Muslim dominated constituency of Haryana. She had lost the election but caught the eyes of BJP central leadership, who decided to ‘parachute-drop' her in Rajasthan's Kaman.
Chaudhary is among the 20 of the 50 women candidates emerged victorious in Rajasthan. Though the strength of women MLAs in the House marginally going down as compared to the outgoing assembly, which has 24 MLAs.
Of the winning women candidates, nine each were from the BJP and the Congress and two are Independents. Chaudhary, though an outsider is the most educated of all. The prominent among women MLAs include Vasundhara Raje, Diya Kumari, Sidhi Kumari, Kalpana Devi, Anita Bhadel, Shikha Meel Barala and Deepti Kiran Maheshwari among others.
Who is Nauksham Chaudhary?
Nauksham Chaudhary is a masters in fashion, business and brand management from Milan in Italy, where she went for higher education after graduating from Miranda House in New Delhi. She as also done MA in Media and Communications from London besides having masters degree in modern Indian history from Delhi University.
She is daughter of Ram Kumar Chaudhary, who is a retired judge and Ranjit Kaur, a retired Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer. Kaur, a 2002 batch officer is facing an ACB probe in which it has been alleged that selections having been made on political and extraneous considerations when Om Prakash Chautala was the chief minister.
