Food commissioner Iqbal Khan issues showcause notices to 9 officers  

Commissioner Iqbal Khan has issued showcause notices to  nine Food Safety Officers (FSOs) for negligence in their duties. The officers, reportedly, have not uploaded information of food samples collected between April and October this year. 

The officers have also said to have not uploaded action taken on 132 food samples on the Food Safety Compliance system.  

These officers included Narendra Kumar Chejara, Ratan Singh Godara, Narendra Sharma, Pawan Kumar Gupta, Deepak Sindhi, Rajesh Nagar, Ramesh Chand Yadav, Nand Kishore Kumar and Avdhesh Gupta. 

Iqbal has sought an explanation from all officials, considering the delay as gross negligence. 

“These FSOs have been strictly instructed not to repeat such a mistake in future. The action in officials has been taken to ensure strict implementation of food safety standards and ,” Iqbal said. 

According to rules of Food Safety Act, information about the action taken by the Food Safety Department on samples has to be uploaded on the FSSAI site. 

This brings transparency and help people get information about the action and stay alert. 

“But for the last few days, food safety officers of other places including were not taking this action,” said a senior official.
