Wife of an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer has lodged a case of dowry and physical torture against him. The officer – Chirag Jhagwal is posted as Assistant Commissioner in Income Tax Department in Ahmedabad. The police has registered the case and will soon summon the Income Tax Officer to join the investigation.
Amit Kumar , DCP West of Jaipur Police said that the police is investigating every aspect of the case.
“We will quiz the complainant as well as the accused to reach to the reality” he said.
What are the allegations against IRS officer?
The woman has alleged that the I-T officer and his family pressurised her to bring cash Rs one crore as dowry as when she didn't heed their demand, they beat her up. After going through tremendous mental and physical torture she returned to her parent's house and lodged FIR against the officer.
According to the FIR, wife Purva Bagdi alleged that her husband Chirag and his family had been putting up undue demands even before marriage. She said that Chira's family pressurised her parents to organise Engagement ceremony at five star hotel – Ram Bagh Palace, which is one of the costliest hotels in Jaipur. She said that her parents gave in to his demands and held that ceremony on May 14, 2022 after taking loans from their relatives. In the engagement ceremony, her parents presented costly items including Rs 5 lakh cash, a diamond ring and other costly items generally given in marriage ceremonies.
Demanded Rs one crore cash and a Volvo car
Purva told Police that the date of marriage was fixed at December 2, 2022. Chirag's family demanded Rs one crore cash and Volvo or Fortuner car as dowry.
“My father went to meet Chirag's parents. He told them that he was unable to fulfill their demand. Then his parents said that the demand was logical as there was an IRS officer. After lot of pursuasion, they reached on a consensus,” she told Police.
The marriage took on December 2, 2022. During welcoming the baraat, Purva said that his father gave Rs 51,000 to Chirag during marriage ceremony gave Rs 1.5 lakh. Later on Kanyadaan he gave Rs 7 lakh.
“Even then Chirag, his brother Mohit and his parents got angry and showed their displeasure towards the gifts and money my father had given,” she told Police.
Purva said that Chirag's family has been torturing her and demanding Rs one crore cash since marriage. Chirha not only mentally tortured her but also manhandled her for dowry.
“I came back to my parents house. We tried to counsel Chirag and his parents but nothing happened. They we lodged FIR against them,” she said.
