Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced a financial assistance of one crore rupees to the family of deceased farmer Shubhkaran. 21 year old Singh who hailed from Bathinda, lost his life during clashes between protestors and security personnel at Khanauri border. 12 police personnel also injured in the clashes on Wednesday. The tragic incident occurred during the renewed ‘Delhi Chalo' march, as protestors expressed their disagreement with the Centre's proposals regarding the minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce.
Today, CM Bhagwant Mann declared that Shubhkaran Singh's family would receive financial assistance of ₹1 crore from the Punjab government. Additionally, a government job will be provided to Singh's younger sister. This move aims to alleviate the financial burden on the family and provide them with stability during this difficult time.
“The family of Shubhkaran Singh, who got martyred during the farmer's movement on the Khanauri border, will be given financial assistance of ₹1 crore by the Punjab government and a government job to his younger sister. Due legal action will be taken against culprits,” Mann said in a post on X.
Addressing the issue, Mann also decided to take legal action against those responsible for Singh's untimely demise. He reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring justice for the fallen farmer Shubhkaran Singh and holding the culprits accountable for their actions.
Shubhkaran Singh, described as a compassionate and dedicated individual, actively participated in the farmers' agitation at the Khanauri border since its inception on February 13th. He was a resident of Baloke village in Punjab's Bathinda district. He is survived by two sisters, a grandmother, and his father, Charanjeet Singh, who works as a school van driver. Shubhkaran was involved in animal husbandry and owned approximately 3 acres of land and had some livestock.
Despite several rounds of dialogue between farmer leaders and government representatives, including meetings on February 8th, 12th, 16th, and 18th, a resolution to the deadlock remains elusive.
