Accused of raping women and a minor girl, former Barmer MLA Mevaram Jain of the Indian National Congress was seen in two obscene videos that went viral on social media on Saturday, January 6. Shocked social media users raised questions on the senior Congress leader who was a three-time MLA before he lost to a BJP candidate in the recent Rajasthan assembly election.
One of the videos is of 6 minutes and the other of 53 seconds. In the police report, the victim said that the former MLA had made a video also while raping her. “When Mevaram Jain and Ram Swaroop had raped me enough, they asked me to bring other 15-16 year old girls,” the woman alleged.
The woman said in the report that the former MLA filed cases against her through Ramswaroop Acharya, Dayal and others in October 2023 and a year before that on November 29, 2022, which were all based on false accusations. The report says that on the day the case was registered on November 29, 2022, at 7 am, Barmer Kotwali police station officer Gangaram Khawa and the policeman there, Daud Khan, both arrived with Dayal at the complainant's residence in Jodhpur and took her to Pali Road, saying that there was some important work. The accused men took the victim to a farmhouse situated in a deserted place.
Earlier, a case of sextortion was registered against the victim by the woman at the Kotwali police station of Barmer by Ramswaroop Acharya, who was made an accused in the POCSO and Prevention of Atrocities against SC-ST case. The case accused the victim and her associates of receiving Rs 50 lakh and demanding more money in a process of blackmailing the politician by threatening to make the video viral. After registering the case, the police brought the victim to Barmer and interrogated her.
The FIR lodged by the victim at the Rajiv Gandhi Nagar police station mentions two videos. According to the victim, both videos were in a pen drive, which raises a question who the videos leaked to social media.
A few days ago, the married woman further complained to the police that the former Barmer MLA had not only raped her but also indulged in indecent acts with her 15-year-old minor daughter.
On the complaint of the woman, a case was registered against nine persons including Jain and RPS Anand Singh Rajpurohit. The woman mentioned two obscene videos in her statement to the police that are now investigating this matter.
Rajasthan Police got the woman medically examined and recorded her statement. Meanwhile, Jain approached the High Court that gave him relief by forbidding his arrest till January 25. The court gave instructions to cooperate in the investigation.
The BJP had raised the issue of Jain's alleged crimes against women in their election campaign.
The surfacing of two obscene videos showing Jain today took X (formerly Twitter) by storm. In one of the videos, the then-Congress MLA enters a room where a mobile camera on a wardrobe rack monitors the goings-on even as a girl crosses the frame. Jain, after entering the room, talks for a bit, drinks water and then starts doing obscene acts with the woman.
During the assembly election, Jain had issued a statement after the photo went viral, claiming that some people were blackmailing him as he had won three consecutive elections on Congress ticket. On the fourth occasion in 2023, Jain faced Dr Priyanka Choudhary, a rebel independent candidate from the BJP, and lost the election.
